What lengthens it:
- Duct work. Sealing runs $800–$2,500 and cleaning $400–$800; either adds time on top of the equipment swap. So does any re-run for a room that never got proper airflow.
- Access. An attic furnace in August, a tight crawlspace, or a closet that has to be opened up all cost hours.
- Equipment availability, which is on the manufacturer's clock, not ours.
- Electrical or gas changes the new system requires — rural properties on propane rather than city gas need different furnace orifices.
What shortens it: replacing like for like, in the same location, with ducts in good shape.
