How Often Should I Service My Home's HVAC System?

A: Twice a year — once in spring before cooling season and once in fall before heating season. In most of the country that cadence is a nicety. In Oklahoma it isn't, because your equipment carries a long punishing cooling season and a real heating season with ice storms inside the same twelve months. There is no off-season here for it to coast through.

The spring visit is about the outdoor side: coil condition, refrigerant charge, capacitor and contactor readings before the first stretch of triple digits. The fall visit is about combustion and heat: burners, heat exchanger, ignition, and safety controls. Rural properties around Wayne, Lindsay, and Maysville often run propane rather than city gas, which uses different furnace orifices — worth confirming if your furnace was ever swapped.
